Who doesn’t love sheet masks? They’re cool, silky and make you feel like a glamorous Egyptian mummy… only less dead.
But did you know that single use sheet masks are messing with our environment big time? Sure, they leave your skin plump and juicy, but once you’ve peeled them off and popped them innocently into the bin, they join millions of other discarded face masks piling up in landfill.
The many costs of one-off sheet masks
But wait, it gets uglier. Single use sheet masks are often made with a complex combo of materials including non-biodegradable plastics, microfibers and chemicals. Not only do they leach toxic goo into the ground and choke wildlife and waterways, they’re almost as timeless as Tutankhamun himself, taking up to 500 years to finally break down.
And look, while we’re ranting, it’s not just about the afterlife either. There’s so much energy that goes into the creation and distribution of single use face masks. This is called embodied energy.
If you add up the resource extraction, chemical synthesis, manufacturing energy, plastic packaging and transportation, those gossamer masks have the carbon footprint of Ra – an Egyptian sun god we assume has massive stompers. And no, we’re not finished with the ancient history references yet.
A simple and sustainable solution
So, what can be done to address this beautiful mess?
Alongside consumer awareness of the issue (aka. de-masking the beast), another solution is to embrace sustainable alternatives, like compostable or reusable masks.
Are you getting the feeling we’re just about to reveal something amazing?
Ta-daaa!
We went ahead and created an everlasting treatment mask Silicone Mask – Beauty and the Bees
Smooth. Versatile. Eternal. Kind of like a KeepCup for your beauty care routine.
You can use this mask with any product, as many times as you wish – so go ahead and leave it to the grandkids; this thing is quality.
How our Everlasting Mask works
Our Everlasting Reusable Treatment Mask Silicone Mask – Beauty and the Bees is everything you love about the single-use ones, only without the environmental consequences.
It’s made from ultra thin silicon that fits smoothly and tightly to the contours of the face, boosting the effectiveness of your treatment by:
- Holding it close to the skin in a moist and cosy microclimate
- which prevents evaporation and traps heat
- making your skin more receptive and absorptive
- so that your mask/serum/moisture cream soaks in deeply
- to soften, refine and reveal luminosity.
And you can use it with any beauty care product!
Rather than the dubious skincare concoction infused into your average single-use sheet mask, our ultra-thin silicone alternative is ultra versatile too, because you can use it to amp up the results of any product – and naturally we recommend Beauty and the Bees ☺️
- Apply your chosen Beauty and the Bees product.
- Place the silicone mask onto your face and tuck the loops over and behind your ears.
- If the ear loops are too tight, cut carefully along the lines at the top and bottom of the loop to loosen.
- Leave it on for 15-20 minutes while listening to smooth jazz or sending mummy-mask selfies to friends.
- Remove mask. If using a serum/ moisture cream/ facial oil, massage it into the skin. If using a mask product, rinse it off with warm water.
- Wash silicone mask using a gentle soap and warm water.
- Allow to dry before storing.
- Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight.
And repeat. How neat!
